Lavin was an American Social Realist painter whose industrial works were greatly revered and collected by The Smithsonian among other notable institutions. An accomplished and highly sought-after security engraver, he was commissioned to design several bank notes including the 1971 Playboy stock vignette through his work for the American Bank Note Company.
