ROBERT MALLET-STEVENS (1886-1945) CRIQUI-LEDOUX / LE GRAND MATCH NATIONAL DE BOXE. 1922.
46 1/2x31 inches, 118x79 cm. Hervé & Maignan, Paris.
Condition B+: creases and abrasions in margins and image; vertical and horizontal folds.
One of the pioneer sports films, this boxing movie features Eugene Criqui's 83 second first round knock-out victory over Charles Ledoux. The movie combines the real life action of the boxing match with pre-fight training scenes and some acting, as Maurice Chevalier also appears in the movie (in one of his earliest film appearances). Mallet-Stevens, who was a friend of the director Henri Diamant-Berger, went on to great acclaim as an architect and this is one of the few posters he is known to have designed. Capitaine p. 40.
