As the first World Women's Bodybuilding Champion, Lyon's conjunction of beauty and strength captured the eye of multiple photographers throughout her career, but none as much as Mapplethorpe. Often labeled as a muse of his, their collaborative model and artist relationship challenged the beauty norms for women at the time, showing elegance and strength are not competitors.
