According to Belknap, Motherwell (1915-1991) proceeded his color lithograph Bastos, 1974-75, the first instance in his printed work when he incorporated a cigarette package wrapper, with the St. Michael series, four different versions of a color lithograph using the enlarged label of an obscure Belgian cigarette package.
