ROBIN HOLDER (1952 - )
Horus of the New Age III.

Color linoleum cut with stencils, 1988. 610x444 mm; 24x17 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin.

Robin Holder's collage and printmaking is inspired by the earlier innovations of Romare Bearden--incorporating mythological hybrids with the African-American experience. The daughter of an African-American father and a Jewish mother from Chicago, she moved to New York's Upper West Side in 1959 with her mother. She attended the High School of Music and Art, the Art Students League, and the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire. In 1977, she joined Bob Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop. Holder's work has been exhibited at the Parish Gallery, Washington, DC, Hammonds House Museum, Atlanta, and the Woodruff Arts Center, Atlanta.
