Additional Details

A school project put together by Lorine Robinson, who was fifteen years old when she made this book in 1941. With a Dedication, Preface and Table of Contents, Lorine Robinson's book is very professionally laid out. Three quarters consists of an anthology of poetry from William Wordsworth to T. S. Eliot. For a fifteen year old, Ms. Robinson's choice of poets is impressive to begin with but to include a poem from T. S. Eliot's Prufrock (1917) is indeed amazing. Robinson includes ten of her own poems, one of which, "My Plea," is particularly touching. "My Plea is for the dark races/ to be treated like those with light faces/ To be able to go anywhere/ and not be restricted to a certain chair. . ." Her teacher has written her remarks on the rear end-paper, giving her a B+, remarking on the overlap of lines and adds: "An interesting piece of work. I should like to discuss it with you." Interesting indeed!
