In the Haute Savoie region of France, Lake Annecy is only 50 kilometers from Geneva, Switzerland. The beautiful Alpine lake is ringed by famous resort towns such as Talloires and Menton, and has been depicted in many different travel posters. Here, the viewer's eye is drawn to the red-roofed houses nestled in the calm green hills, while the pastel mountains in the distance and the quiet blue lake convey an enviable sense of serenity. "The boat is probably The France, the largest and most elegant of the steamboats on the lake" (Hillion p. 178). Broders p. 65B, Perry / Broders p. 68, Hillion p. 178.
