ROGER BRODERS (1883-1953) LE TOUR DU CAP CORSE. 1923.
42x31 inches, 107x79 cm. Cornille & Serre, Paris.
Condition B+: repaired tears, restoration and overpainting in margins and image; restored punch-holes in right margin.
Here, promoting excursion by car through Corsica, Broders employs his effective, distinctive, formulaic approach to design. He uses three distinct graphic areas to create a formidable sense of depth perception: The foreground, generally depicted in darker hues, "which serves to enhance and draw the attention of the viewer to the center [where Broders depicts a town or a village] . . .Trees are added to increase effects of perspective . . . The background where deciphering of the picture ends, represents the mountains, which draws upwards the gaze of the viewer" (Perry / Broders p. 11). Broders p. 98, Perry / Broders p. 20.
