ROGER BRODERS (1883-1953) MARSEILLE / POINT DE DÉPART DE LA CÔTE D'AZUR. Circa 1929.
39 1/4x24 3/4 inches, 100x62 cm. Lucien Serre, Paris.
Condition A.
This poster is a significant departure from Broders' signature style, and marks one of the few times he attempted to embrace Machine Age graphics. "In this poster one can feel the influence of Cassandre" (Quand l'Affiche p. 113), as Broders depiction of the locomotive is quite similar to that in Cassandre's masterpiece Nord Express, which was printed in 1927. Art Deco p. 21, Broders p. 82, Perry / Broders p. 36, Quand l'Affiche 82, Voyage p. 38, Weill 329, Chemin de Fer 151, Marseille p. 57, Golden Age 137, Zagrodzki 241, Favre p. 78.
