ROGER BRODERS (1883-1953) VILLEFRANCHE S / MER. Circa 1929.
39 1/2x24 1/2 inches, 99 3/4x62 1/4 cm. Lucien Serre, Paris.
Condition A / A-: minor restoration at edges; minor abrasions in image.
"Villefranche is a privileged stopover for cruise ships coming to anchor in the harbor that drop their passengers on land for a sightseeing tour . . . Broders illustrates this new tourism by a large ship pointing its bow towards [shore]. The docks are home to traditional fishing boats, tartans and feloques, and luxury yachts belonging to a privileged few aristocrats and millionaires" (Azur p. 154). This poster also exists without the PLM logo in the upper right corner, presumably printed for the local tourist office. Broders p. 93A, Perry / Broders p. 35, Riviera 83, Le Train p. 138, Azur 179.
