Peugeot was a major advertiser in France between the wars, commissioning innumerable posters to advertise both their cars and their bicycles. After the First World War their posters were consistently marked with a distinct modernist feel, to show they were a contemporary company keeping up with the times. This palpably accomplished Art Deco image is more complex than what immediately greets the eye. Pérot constructs the image using three separate planes: foreground, middle and background. Each plane is delineated by one of the colors of the French flag, reinforcing the identity of Peugeot as a French company.
