Additional Details

John Rogers (1829-1904) was a prolific and popular American sculptor. His statues, often called "Rogers groups," made fine art available to the middle class. Between 1859 and 1892 he sculpted and patented over 80 vignettes of everyday life and literary characters. The Wounded Scout is one of only a handful of Rogers pieces with Civil war themes. Most of these works are generally found re-painted.
