ROGGERO (DATES UNKNOWN) LAFFLY. Circa 1930.
91 3/4x60 1/4 inches, 233x153 cm. Roger Roy, Paris.
Condition B+: repaired tears, creases, restoration and overpainting in margins and image; restored loss and restoration in bottom left corner. Two-sheets.
Laffly began producing vehicles in 1912. By the 1930s, they specialized in off road military vehicles such as jeeps and tractors and were pioneers in the field of diesel engines. They are also famous for their production of fire trucks. The company commissioned high quality advertisements from the Damour Agency (see Swann Modernist Poster Auction #2113, lot 126), as well as individual artists. While no information exists on Roggero, he has created a classic Art Deco image. With a nod to Cassandre's Nord Express, he shows how one of the company's trucks is as fast as a locomotive.
