A very scarce, experimental print, The Dove is only the second photostat from the first edition to come to auction. We have found only two other known impressions of this photostat, one in a larger 50x69 1/2 inch format in the collection of the Romare Bearden Foundation, New York, and a smaller format, 19 7/8x23 3/4 inches, sold at Swann Galleries on February 6, 2007.

This "projection" is larger than the collage, which is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Gail Gelburd and Thelma Golden, Romare Bearden in Black-and-White, Photomontage Projections, 1964, Whitney Museum of American Art, Harry N. Abrams, New York, 1997, cover and pp. 30-31.
