THE COLLAGE FOR THE PROJECTION ROMARE BEARDEN
Untitled (Sermons: In that Number).

Various collaged papers on cardstock, circa 1964. 335x260 mm; 131/8x101/8 inches. Signed in pencil, upper left. Ex-collection the artist and Abe Taube, Brighton, MA.

This work was acquired directly from the artist by the owner who worked with Bearden at the New York City Department of Welfare during the 1960s.

An early work from the first year of Bearden's work in the medium, when he was using the photostat process to enlarge collages. This work was apparently used for the black and white photomontage projection Sermons: In that Number, 1964, estate of Romare Bearden. See Romare Bearden in Black and White, Photomontage Projections 1964, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 1997, p. 70.
