Australian National Airways began operation in 1930 and was bought out by Ansett in 1957. "Ronald Clayton Skate was an Australian graphic designer and illustrator living and working in Melbourne. Skate appears to have become the ANA's sole advertising artist after WWII working with ANA up to and including the period of ANA's takeover by Ansett in 1957" (Powerhousemuseum.com). Here, luggage labels adorn a leather valise, graphically reinforcing the destination cities along the airline's route map in the background.
