ROOSEVELT, ELEANOR. Two Typed Letters Signed. The first, to "Mrs. F.A. Kingsley," requesting that she solicit suggestions for the Democratic Party platform. 1 page, 4to, "Democratic State Committee" stationery; remnants of prior mounting at upper and right edges verso, minor loss to upper left corner, folds. The second, to "Mrs. Alexander B. Clark," suggesting that she contact the Washington Embassies of Belgium and Sweden for information concerning the support of the elderly by Scandinavian countries. 16 May 1924: "Will you get into touch with the organizations around you . . . and if they wish to send in planks to the Democratic Platform Committee, will you have them send them to us as soon as possible?
"We will hold hearings on all the planks which have come in, either the first or second week in June . . . ."
In 1924, FDR served as Chairperson of the Committee for the Nomination of Alfred E. Smith for President, and Eleanor served as Chairperson of the women's delegation of the Platform Committee for the 1924 Democratic National Convention.
