Esther Jenta Lichtmann (1892-1990) was employed at the Master Institute of United Arts, a New York art school founded by her brother, piano instructor Maurice Lichtmann, and painter Nicholas Roerich. Roerich was instrumental in organizing the Roerich Pact, an inter-American agreement protecting cultural artifacts from destruction by military operations, which was signed by Roosevelt and representatives of 20 other American governments in Washington on April 15, 1935.
