first edition. Tells the story of the Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition, which is how Roosevelt spent most of the year after the leaving the White House. The hunting party bagged 512 big game animals and numerous other specimens for the Smithsonian Institution and the American Museum of Natural History. Their route took them through British-held portions of the continent, including what are now Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan. The plates reproduce photographs by Theodore and Kermit Roosevelt, and drawings by Philip R. Goodwin.
