"Mayor Mitchell has given New York City its best administration that it has had within my recollection; I am glad that he has consented again to be a candidate; I most earnestly hope that the Republicans will endorse the fusion ticket, and that there will be no contest against it in the Republican primaries. All good citizens, without regard to party, should welcome the chance to continue the present fusion administration in office; it has been honest, courageous and progressive."
