APPROVING RESOLUTION SETTLING AFFAIRS OF CHEROKEE NATION ROOSEVELT, THEODORE. Endorsement Signed, "T. Roosevelt," as President, approving a resolution of the National Council of the Cherokee Nation. The resolution, a typed document, "Joint Resolution No. One," passed by the U.S. Senate on September 28, 1905, and approved by the Council on the following day. Additionally signed by John M. Hay, as pro tem President of the Senate, William C. Rogers, as Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, and others. The President and Rogers signed on second page. 2 pages, folio, written on recto and verso of a single sheet; horizontal folds, punch holes in upper margin. (TFC) [Washington], 17 August 1907

"Resolved, That it is the sense of the National Council of the Cherokee Nation, representing the Cherokee people, that a final settlement of our affairs should be made:
"First. For the participation of all children born since . . . 1902, and prior to . . . 1906 . . . would be entitled to share equally with children born prior thereto . . . .
"Second. For the sale of surplus lands . . . upon the very best terms possible, and the distribution of our moneys per capita . . . .
"Third. For continuing the primary schools . . . .
". . . That the Commission heretofore authorized by an act of the National Council are requested to use their best efforts to secure the favorable action of Congress upon the matters referred to in this resolution."
