Additional Details

This annotated list of 93 birds was compiled by Roosevelt on 27 March 1908, comprising birds he had seen in Washington over the first 6 1/2 years of his presidential administration. Birds spotted on the White House grounds are noted with an asterisk, and Roosevelt notes that "Doubtless this list is incomplete; I have seen others that I have forgotten." The list was printed to be bound into a revised edition of Maynard's Birds of Washington and Vicinity. Only a small number of copies, probably fewer than twenty, were left unbound. Cordingley, Extreme Rarities in the Published Works of Theodore Roosevelt, page 25-26. with--Maynard. Birds of Washington and Vicinity, with the list bound in after page 20. Washington, 1909.
