Lichtenstein created this print as a promotional placard for the movie Joanna, a 20th Century Fox release starring Donald Sutherland and directed by Michael Sarne. The plot centered around Joanna (Genevieve Waite), a wide-eyed 17-year-old who dreams of a glamorous new life for herself in Swinging London, ultimately falling in with sexually liberal artists, aristocrats and youths. The movie was released in 1968 to critical acclaim, though ultimately lost money for the studio. Lichtenstein's imagery was used in newspaper advertisements, but the poster was never released or distributed.
