ROY LICHTENSTEIN (1923-1997) LINCOLN CENTER. 1966.
45x291/2 inches. Union, New York.
Condition A-: minor tears and creases in margins. Paper.
Lichtenstein first used enlarged comic strips in 1961. He successfully used his style of enlarged dots and broad outlining on other subjects and the style rapidly became part of America's visual vernacular. This poster is perhaps the best example of Lichtenstein's plastic attitude which is closely related to the work of Fernand Leger. The composition, colors and lettering are perfectly arranged to build an impressive image. One of the most important post war American posters, it was printed in a run of 500 with a separate run of 100 printed on silver foil).
