ROY LICHTENSTEIN
Bull Head III.

Color lithograph, screenprint and line-cut on Arjomari paper, 1973. 533x725 mm; 21x28 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 21/100 in pencil, lower margin. Printed and published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, with the blind stamp lower right. A superb impression with strong colors.

One of only several abstract prints that Lichtenstein (1923-1997) created, among the three completely abstract images in the Bull and Bull Head series from 1973. These works relate to Picasso's famous Bull lithographs, 1945-46, in which the artist transformed a fully-realized image of a bull into the most rudimentary, minimal representation of the animal—not unlike prehistoric cave drawings—in a series of 11 different lithographs.
