ROY LICHTENSTEIN
Cathedral #5.

Color lithograph on Special Arjomari paper, 1969. 1063x686 mm; 41 7/8x27 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 41/75 in pencil, lower margin. Printed and published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, with the blind stamp lower right. From the Cathedral series. A very good impression with strong colors.

According to Corlett, Lichtenstein's Haystack and Cathedral series of lithographs were his first collaboration with the master printers Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles in 1979. Lichtenstein's experiments using Monet's subjects in his own paintings began in 1968, and he continued to work on them through these print series. For the Cathedral series, a negative of Lichtenstein's ink drawing was laid over a Benday dot stencil on a photo-sensitive plate. Corlett 79.
