Additional Details

During this period Bauer had become a fixture at Galerie Der Sturm, the avant-garde gallery space and literary and arts publication founded by Herwarth Walden in 1912. Bauer was initiated into the Der Sturm circle around 1915, and with his participation in a number of group exhibitions there he began to put aside his commercial illustration work in favor of painting. He taught at the Der Sturm School run by Walden, where Paul Klee was also an instructor, and was given solo shows in 1917, 1918, and 1920.
