RUDOLF JETTMAR (1869-1939) SECESSION XXVII AUSSTELLUNG. 1906.
25x173/4 inches. Druck v. Albert Berger, Wien.
Condition B+: tear in upper margin. Paper.
As a student Jettmar won the coveted Grand prix de Rome, which led to a stay in Rome as well as an academic career. He was also an active member of the Secession for over 20 years, and he regularly exhibited and published in Ver Sacrum. Yet today he remains underrated, his work eclipsed by such artistic giants as Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Alfred Roller and others. This poster for the 27th Secession Exhibition shows the Secession pavilion design by Joseph Maria Olbrich. Olbrich himself depicted his building in a poster, in 1898, and here Jettmar adds a typical Austrian allegory to the skies above the cherished structure. Secession no. 21, p. 65, Denscher p. 51.
