RUFINO TAMAYO
Hombre.

Color lithograph, 1972. 897x603 mm; 35 3/8x23 3/4 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 48/100 in pencil, lower center. Printed by Bank Street Atelier, New York. Published by Transworld Art, New York. A very good impression with strong colors.

Tamayo (1899-1991) remained close to his Oaxacan heritage throughout his career. While influenced by Fauvism, Cubism and Surrealism, having close ties to fellow Mexican muralists such as Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros, and drawing significantly from native Mexican arts and spirituality, he developed a distinctly individual, modern style. During the mid-20th century, and especially during the ascent of his productive printmaking career, Tamayo's style has an affinity with Surrealism, looking back to earlier works by artists including Joan Miró and Max Ernst. Pereda 131.
