RUSCHA, EDWARD. On the Road. By Jack Kerouac. Illustrated by Ruscha with 50 photographs, many on blind-stamped leaves. Oblong folio (13 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches; 335 x 440 mm), publisher's grey leather-covered boards stamped in black after a design by Kerouac; matching slipcase, and complete with the publisher's white gloves with printed slip and printed cardboard packing box (numbered 20). Limited edition artist's book, number 20 from an edition of 350, signed "Ruscha 2009" in pencil on the colophon at rear (total edition includes 35 artist's proofs). Printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper and Hahnemühle paper. "It is completely fitting that Ed Ruscha would take up the challenge of looking at Kerouac's On the Road. In many ways Ruscha's entire career has offered an artistic corollary to Kerouac's linguistic portrait of the American landscape, giving concrete visual form to the poetry of our vernacular roadside" (Fogle, "Ed Ruscha on the Road," Hammer exhibition, 2011). New York/Gottingen, Germany: Gagosian-Steidl, 2009
