"The plate will do very nicely now with the least bit more trouble. You must still brighten the capital a little and darken the background so as to bring it all out in light--you will see . . . . The background should imitate the stippled touch, which will make it transparent. Seen through a magnifying glass, the background should be [drawing] so, only with no blots, and shaded off to edges faintly. . . . I shall not want another review--when the alterations are made, please send plate to Mess'rs J[ohn] & E[dward Bumpus]."
