first edition in book form. with ruskin's presentation inscription on title: "Mary Lucy Story-Maskelyne, / with John Ruskin's love / 9th Augt. 1882." The recipient was the daughter of Ruskin's friend Nevil Story-Maskelyne, Professor of Mineralogy at Oxford and Keeper of Minerals at the British Museum. She later married politician Hugh Oakley Arnold-Foster and wrote a memoir of him in 1910.
