Additional Details

After years of trying to get his illustration career going, Russell Patterson finally began to find success in the mid-1920s as his drawings of slinky party-girls began to catch the public's eye. Patterson's keen sense of fashion made the "Patterson Girl" the style en vogue, and she could be seen in advertisements for goods from clothing to mattresses, made into paper dolls, and in comic strips.

Here, Patterson pays homage to one of his inspirations, Charles Dana Gibson. Patterson looks at the "Patterson Girl's" turn-of-the-century predecessor, the Gibson Girl, and draws comparisons between the fashions of 1908 and 1933.
