Additional Details

The glossary is inscribed and signed: "To Anatole, Thanks for all of your great help! General Tom Stafford." Stafford gave Anatole this document after the flight. DLI originally created this document in part to train DoD personnel for electronic eavesdropping of Soviet communications during the Cold War. In an ironic twist, it was used as a tool to enable peaceful cooperation and understanding during the first joint manned mission between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Language instruction was conducted five days a week with one instructor per two astronauts to maximize participation and competitiveness. Occasionally all four instructors and eight astronauts met together for Russian conversations to enable the astronauts to judge their language proficiency against each other. With a Typed Letter Signed by Forostenko.
