S. W. LEFEAUXTHE GATEWAY TO HEALTH & PLEASURE / WATERLOO STATION. 1922.
39x24 1/4 inches.
Condition B+: repaired tears in margins.
Swarms of gaily-clad passengers are ascending the stairs of the formidable entrance to Waterloo Station, with her doorway indicating the London & South Western Railway<> service available from within. Amongst the service's destinations was Southhampton, which provided access to the continent via steam ship, and one of the continent's sea-side destinations is allegorically presented as being just over the threshold of the station. In 1923 the London & South Western Railway, London, Brighton & South Coast Railway and the South Eastern & Chatham Railway (along with several other smaller lines) were combined to form the The Southern Railway. A rare and early British travel poster. Not in Railway.
