SABLES D'OR. 1925.
411/2x291/2 inches. Les Belles Affiches, Paris.
Condition A-: minor restoration and overpainting in margins.
A highly decorative travel poster executed in an (enlarged) style similar to the illustrations that Loupot was designing for contemporary fashion magazines like the Gazette du Bon Ton. This design, for a sea-side resort in Brittany, is a graceful, elongated image in which the contours of the couple beneath the tree echo the curves of the tree and the surrounding flora and fauna. In the background, within the lush foliage, a golfer and a rider can be seen taking advantage of this "sports paradise." The poster is elegant and well balanced with the vibrating tones that Loupot used so effectively. It contrasts, quite positively, with most of the travel posters of the period. As a sophisticated extra touch, Loupot literalizes the name of the resort Sables d'Or (Gold Sand) by using metallic gold ink for the beach. It also echoes Le Cavalier Bleu his 1924 painting which has all of the same elements: Palm trees and elegant people at the sea, depicted from practically the same point of view.
