Additional Details

"With this letter you will receive the last proofs that you sent me.
". . . A few days ago I received the visit of M. Jehin the celebrated orchestra conductor who expressed to me the desire to mount the Promised Land next winter at Monte Carlo.
"I have great confidence in the future of this work, since almost all of my great successes have had difficult beginnings: the [Second] Piano Concerto in G Minor, the [Introduction and] Rondo Capriccioso for Violin, the Danse Macabre, among others, declared detestable at their premiers.
"At Monte Carlo the choruses are sparser but excellent and the room is small; and the soloists will be first rate."
