SALVADOR DALÍ
Les Chants de Maldoror.

Portfolio with complete text, 30 engravings, a suite of 14 engravings (7 with drypoint remarqués) and 6 engraved vignettes, 1934 (printed in 1973). 330x255 mm; 13x10 inches (sheets), full margins, loose as issued.

Edition of 210. Numbered 198 on the half-title verso. Each of the 50 prints signed in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Etienne Braillard, Geneva. Published by Graphik Europa Anstalt, 1973. Original black linen portfolio folders and slipcases.

Dalí created the 30 prints for this suite in 1933-34, under the direction of the publisher Albert Skira. The edition called for 210 copies. However, only approximately half the edition was created. The plates passed from Skira to another Parisian publisher, Henri Petiet, who then sold them to Pierre Argillet, who directed the publication of the current edition in 1973. This current edition completes the unfinished edition of 1934. Michler/Löpsinger 11-54; Field 34-2.
