Collection of 19 etchings and 2 etched copper plates from La Vida es Sueño.
Collection of 19 etchings, 2 with hand coloring in ink and gouache, and 2 etched copper plates, circa 1962-1970. Each approximately 500x660 mm; 19 3/4x26 inches (sheets), full margins. Each artist's proofs, aside from the unrealized first edition of 250 (there was a second edition of 311 issued in 1975 which used smaller plates based on the earlier etchings). Printed by Ateliers Rigal, Paris, under the direction of Berggruen, Paris. An extremely scarce archive of scarce, likely unique proofs, from an unrealized portfolio project.
Including the following etchings (with Field catalogue raisonné letter references:
(B) Group of 7 etchings printed in black on cream laid Richard de Bas and cream wove BFK Rives, each with Dali's signature and the date "1962" in drypoint, lower center. Each except 3 inscribed "E.A." in pencil, lower left; 3 inscribed "premier etat" in pencil, lower left; one inscribed "second etat" in pencil, lower left.
(D) A unique proof printed in black, brown and green, with the green aquatint vertical strip at right. This strip boxed in pencil and inscribed "detruit" in pencil, upper right.
(G) Group of 5 proofs, 4 printed in printed in black and one printed in greenish black on BFK Rives. One with a figure with hand coloring in white gouache.
(J) A proof printed in colors from the second edition using the smaller plate.
(L) Proof printed in dark brownish green on BFK Rives. Inscribed "2e état" in pencil, lower margin.
(M) Two of the original etched copper plates and one proof printed in black from the first edition on BFK Rives, with crisp, inky plate edges and printer's ink smudges; the other a proof from the second edition using the smaller plate.
(N) A proof printed in black and greenish brown with hand coloring in red ink and felt-tip pen on BFK Rives. Inscribed "E.A." in pencil, lower left.
