The handling of the landscape in the current work recalls Rosa's preparatory drawing for the etching of Albert, Companion to St. William, 1661, Collection of Lord Leicester (see Wallace, The Etchings of Salvator Rosa, Princeton, 1979, p. 248-49, figure 100a).
