SAM EZELL
Untitled.

Oil on canvas, 2024. 1370x1760 mm; 54x69½ inches. Signed and dated in oil, lower right recto.

Provenance: Private collection, North Carolina.

According to Leland Little, where his work has previously been offered, "Folk and 'Outsider' artist Sam Ezell has become a force in the local arts communities of Durham and Orange Counties [North Carolina], as well as the surrounding areas. He took up painting in 2008 when an artist friend requested he create something for her, and since then the demand for his colorful, bold works keeps growing. Ezell began painting everyday objects in the folk art tradition—household fixtures like jars of pickles and mayonnaise, farm animals, and church scenes. When he lost ninety five percent of his vision in one eye, he began to paint larger works that are abstract in composition but retain the same vibrant palate. Ezell's work is popular at auctions, galleries, and antique dealers throughout the Southeast."
