Estimate: $ 25,000 - $ 35,000
SARGENT JOHNSON (1888 - 1967)
Singing Saints.

Lithograph on wove paper, 1940. 305x235 mm; 12x9 1/4 inches, wide (full?) margins. Miller's Olde Style watermark. Signed, titled and numbered 127/150 in pencil, lower margin. An excellent, very dark impression of this scarce print.

Provenance: Robert Henry Adams Fine Art, Chicago, with the label on the frame back.

Although the edition is relatively large, this iconic print appears today to be very scarce - this is only the second impression to come to auction. We have found only a handful of impressions in collections, including the Amon Carter Museum, Dallas, the California Afro-American Museum Foundation, the Oakland Museum of Art, the Corcoran Museum of Art and the Harriet and Harmon Kelley Collection of African-American Art.
