Additional Details

"May I beg you to forward . . . [a copy of his book] to Professor W. Hielbig, Secretary of the Instituto Archeologico . . . Rome . . . .
"Should the Guardian publish F. Calvert's answer to my article, pray send me a copy of it. . . ."
Frank Calvert (1828-1908) was a British geologist, diplomat, and archaeologist, who was the first to excavate at the site that was later acknowledged to contain the ruins of ancient Troy.
In 1875, John Murray published Schliemann's book, Troja und seine Ruinen [Troy and Its Ruins]. In letters and articles published that year in the Guardian, Calvert and Schliemann squabbled about who deserved credit for the discoveries of the Trojan ruins.
