Advertising classes on poster design by no less of an authority than himself, Klinger depicts an artist holding a brush and palette sitting on the slate-green head of an ancient warrior. The classical reference may very well be an artistic allusion to Gustav Klimt's poster from 1898 advertising the first exhibition of Secesion Artists in which Athena is very similarly portrayed.
