SCHWEITZER, ALBERT. Two items, each Signed, to Fred and Eleanor Peck: Photograph * Brief Autograph Letter. The photograph, half-length portrait, showing him seated on a bank of the Ogooué River. Signed in the blank lower margin. 4x5 1/2 inches; cello tape along upper and lower edges (not affecting signature), slight silvering in dark areas. The letter, in French, thanking for sending medicines and sympathy, written in the space below the letter from Schweitzer's nurse and personal secretary Ali Silver to the same recipients. Silver's letter, in English, sending thanks for their gift, pointing out that the volume of Schweitzer's correspondence has become unprecedentedly large, noting that Schweitzer has been spending more time lately renovating the leper village, and remarking that there are now about 250 patients plus about 150 lepers at the compound. 1 page, 4to, onionskin paper; folds.
