Additional Details

Rations doled out by the army consisted of: 'Ten ounces of pork or bacon, or one pound of fresh beef; one pound of cornmeal five times a week; and one pound of flour or soft bread, or twelve ounces of hard bread, twice a week, and to every one hundred rations ten pounds of beans. . . .To children under fourteen years of age, half rations will be issued; and to women and children roasted rye coffee at the rate of ten pounds, or tea at the rate of fifteen ounces to every one hundred rations."
