Carbon typescript, hole-punched yellow stock, 11 x 8 1/2 inches, rectos only, with the author's address and editorial marks on the title sheet, occasional wrinkling and spotting, some edgewear with small chips, particularly to title and beginning leaves. an early draft of the book as submitted to Grove Press, consisting of the following: "Strike," the chapter which was published as Part V. title page and 122 numbered pages of text with approximately 80 deletions, corrections or additions in selby's hand. Followed by title page captioned "A Fairy Tale" (with a different author address -from E. 10th to Avenue B- than earlier title page), then on following page "A Fairy Tale / Part II / The Queen Is Dead." Part II is titled The Queen Is Dead in the published version and differs from the version found here in that the opening line "The door closed" isn't found until 12 pages subsequent. This part consists of 48 numbered pages with approximately another 40 deletions, corrections or additions in Selby's hand.
