SEPO (SVERA POZZATI) (1895-1983) NOVELTEX. 1928.
581/4x383/4 inches. Dorland, Paris.
Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds; creases in image; pinholes in margins.
Having studied in Bologna, Sepo began working for the Maga studio in 1917. He moved to Paris in 1920 and spent some time working for Vercasson before he moved to the Paris branch of the international agency Dorland. This poster that he created for Noveltex, a shirt maker, represents the best work he ever did for Dorland. His geometrically influenced depiction of a shirt is an ingenious, stylized version of an "Object" poster, and it became the company's logo and served as the basic visual element used by the company's advertisers for many years. Here Sepo adds a patterned circle and two, colored rectangles to the background to build a cubist still life centered around the shirt. Sepo p. 161 no. 72.
