SERGE POLIAKOFF
Composition bleue.

Color lithograph on Rives BFK, 1958-59. 505x653 mm; 20x25 3/4 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 106/110 in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Pons, Paris. Published by L'Oeuvre Gravée, Zurich. A superb impression with fresh colors.

Born in Moscow, Poliakoff (1906-1969) was a Russian-French modernist artist who is best known for his lushly-colored abstract paintings, influenced by his association in the 1930s with Wassily Kandinsky and Sonia and Robert Delaunay (see lots 91-94). Many of Poliakoff's lithographs and etchings are based on his painted compositions. Rivière 21.
