SERGE POLIAKOFF
Composition bleue.

Color lithograph on Rives BFK, 1958-59. 505x653 mm; 20x25 3/4 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 106/110 in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Pons, Paris. Published by L'Œuvre Gravée, Zurich. A superb impression with fresh colors.

Born in Moscow, Poliakoff (1906-1969) was a Russian-French modernist artist who is best known for his lushly-colored abstract paintings, influenced by his association in the 1930s with Wassily Kandinsky and Sonia and Robert Delaunay (see lot 57). Many of Poliakoff's lithographs and etchings are based on his painted compositions. Rivière 21.
